Saint Francis Xavier (1506-1552)

Monday of the First Week of Advent

Readings of the Day
RB: Ch 52 The Oratory of the Monastery
Mass: Is 2:1-5; Resp Ps 122; Mt 8:5-11

Come and save us, Lord our God; let your face shine upon us, that we may be saved.

The centurion. Aware, alert, a man of deep faith keeping vigil; he knows when the Master has come to town. 'Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully.' The Healer responds: I will come and cure him. May we be so aware, alert, and vigilant and recognize Christ in our midst. We believe, help our unbelief.

MARANA THA! COME, LORD JESUS!

Vigilance and prayer are two words for Advent: Because historically the Lord came in Bethlehem; and He will come, at the end of the world and also at the end of our individual lives. But every day, every moment, He comes into our hearts, with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
(Pope Francis, homily, December 3, 2018)

Since the first coming brought grace and the last will bring glory, this one indeed partakes both of grace and of glory; for in it, through the consolation of grace, we are given a foretaste of future glory.
(Guerric of Igny)

Your salvation shall soon come; why should you be consumed with grief? The time is truly short, though it may well seem very long to any of us who are in turmoil, whether from labor or from love.
(Guerric of Igny)

May I wait for you, ever wait for you unmoved until I see what I believe. For I believe that I shall see the Lord's favor in the land of the living.
(Guerric of Igny)

SAINT FRANCIS XAVIER, PRAY FOR US.
