To be near God is my happiness, to place my hope in God the Lord.
November continues with the celebration of powerful saints, today, Mechtilde of Hackeborn, another great from the Abbey at Helfta, Germany. Mechtilde began her monastic life at the age of seven when her sister, Gertrude of Hackeborn (not to be confused with Gertrude the Great), was sixteen, already at Helfta, and soon to become the community's Abbess. Mechtilde became the confidante of Gertrude the Great after Gertrude was welcomed at the monastery. Both were mystics. Both have writings still in existence: Mechtilde with Book of Special Grace; Gertrude the Great with The Memorial of the Abundance of Divine Sweetness. Helfta was a busy place! May all the greats of Helfta intercede for us including, Gertrude of Hackeborn, Mechtilde of Hackeborn, Gertrude the Great, and Mechtilde of Magdeburg. May God be praised!

I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD, SAYS THE LORD; WHOEVER FOLLOWS ME WILL HAVE THE LIGHT OF LIFE.(Gospel Acclamation, Mass)
