Easter 2025 – Christ Has Risen

May 6, 2025

“The summit of the Liturgical Year is the Easter Triduum—from the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday. Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ’s Paschal Mystery.” USCCB Website.

The Pascal Vigil on Holy Saturday night celebrates the renewal of the earth by lighting a new pascal fire and then lighting candles from that fire. Christ has risen from the dead.  He has expelled darkness and illumines the world with His Light.  As the candle is raised, we sing “Lumen Christi” (light of Christ”).

The Pascal Vigil continues with the singing of the Exultet, readings from scripture, and Mass.  Light has been restored to our church and to the world. There is hope in the new creation as Christ lifts us up into himself.
