Welcome to Ordinary Time!

St Mark is clear. John is arrested. Jesus goes to Galilee and proclaims the gospel of God: 'This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.' The Lord passes by, saying to some fishermen, 'Come after me'. They follow him. It seems to me a good way to begin Ordinary Time. Repent. Believe. Follow.

Thoughts are random. First, about today's Gospel:

It is a feminine trait to listen, to receive, to watch. Perhaps that is why more women pray than men. Perhaps it is why among contemplatives there are more women than men-it is the 'feminine' which listens and waits. It is a feminine trait, also, to see, to observe. The wine has run out. Mary notices, and being a woman she has a practical mind.
